Our Story
Born from a belief that every home should be part of the climate solution, Habitect was founded to solve a major gap in how we value, manage and futureproof residential properties — not just for emissions, but for resilience, uninsurability, and long-term value.
Founder Bio
Christian Keel is the Founder & CEO of Habitect. He brings deep expertise in decarbonisation, circular economy and lifecycle strategy, with extensive consulting experience supporting major businesses, governments and institutions. Christian has also served as Head of Commonwealth Government Engagement at an internationally recognised climate change think tank. His work bridges systems innovation, policy, and environmental science — with a clear focus on building practical tools for climate resilience and sustainable living.
Christian’s passion for founding Habitect stems from a desire to address one of Australia’s most fragmented and overlooked challenges: the residential built environment. Responsible for over 20% of electricity use and more than 10% of national carbon emissions, this sector is critical to Australia’s climate goals — yet often seen as too complex to abate. Christian is motivated by the urgent need to unlock the $80–100 billion opportunity in retrofits, electrification, and home efficiency upgrades by 2030 — and to ensure every home can become smarter, cleaner, and more resilient.
